Dickens Institute en su rol de "Parent Centre" de IGCSE

El Instituto Dickens se desempeña desde 1997 como Centro Tutelar de un grupo de 14 colegios bilingües que presentan sus alumnos a los exámenes de IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) de University of Cambridge International Examinations. Estos colegios han elegido al Instituto Dickens como Centro para presentar a sus alumnos a estos importantes exámenes internacionales. Su confianza nos llena de orgullo.

Debido a esta relación y al desempeño como Centro Tutelar, fuimos distinguidos en 2002 por The University of Cambridge International Examinations como "Cambridge International Associate Partner".

Certificado General Internacional de Educación Secundaria
International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE)

El IGCSE, "International General Certificate of Secondary Education" Certificado General Internacional de Educación Secundaria) es una de las certificaciones más reconocidas del mundo entero. Se considera que los cursos de IGCSE desarrollan destrezas educativas esenciales, entre las que se encuentran el proceso de recordar conocimientos, y las habilidades de expresión oral, resolución de problemas, el trabajo en equipo y el espíritu de iniciativa e investigación. La certificación resultante constituye la base para cursos de un nivel superior, tales como los exámenes A y AS Levels, el Advanced International Certificate of Education (Certificado Internacional de Educación Avanzada), el programa North American Advanced Placement (Nivelación Avanzada de América del Norte) y el Bachillerato Internacional.

El IGCSE presenta un formato flexible que ofrece a los candidatos la libertad de elegir las materias que más se adecuen a su nivel, además de brindar una amplia base de conocimientos y de habilidades que perdurará toda la vida.

¿Dónde se acepta y reconoce el IGCSE?

El IGCSE es una certificación de alto perfil. Tiene exactamente el mismo valor para continuar estudios a nivel más avanzado, o para obtener empleo, que el GCSE, el equivalente que se utiliza en el Reino Unido. El IGCSE es comparable al GCE O Level y al GCSE en el Reino Unido. Una calificación alta en el IGCSE "English as a Second Language" (Inglés como Segunda Lengua), es decir, de grado C o más alta, es aceptada por casi todas las universidades en el Reino Unido y por varias universidades en los Estados Unidos, Canadá y Australia como prueba de adecuada competencia en el idioma inglés.

¿Cómo se enseña el IGCSE?

En los colegios, se alienta a los estudiantes a que estudien siete materias del IGCSE al mismo tiempo. Con el objetivo de cubrir una currícula amplia pero a la vez equilibrada, muchos estudiantes toman cursos de cada uno de los grupos de IGCSE (ver listado de materias), en especial si desean acceder a estudios superiores. En este caso pueden llegar a obtener el International Certificate of Education (Certificado Internacional de Educación), una certificación adicional que reconoce a los estudiantes que aprueban exámenes en siete o más materias, incluyendo dos idiomas y una materia de cada uno de los otros grupos. Sin embargo, también es posible elegir libremente entre las materias del IGCSE.

Los programas de las materias son definidos por Cambridge, pero la metodología de enseñanza queda librada al criterio de cada Colegio o Institución.

IGCSE

The International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) has been designed for 14–16 year olds. Students who obtain an IGCSE qualification from Cambridge are prepared for further academic success, including progression to A and AS Level study, and will be equipped with the skills needed for immediate employment. Cambridge IGCSE is recognised as evidence of ability by academic institutions and employers around the world.

Cambridge IGCSE provides a broad study programme across a wide range of subject areas. Within the curriculum there is a balanced mix of practical experience and theoretical knowledge. With a choice of Core and Extended papers in most subjects, the Cambridge IGCSE is suitable for students with different levels of ability.

The Cambridge IGCSE is an internationally based curriculum, allowing teaching to be placed in a localised context, making it relevant in different regions. It is also suitable for students whose first language may not be English and this is acknowledged throughout the examination process.

Diplomas Internacionales de Cambridge (Cambridge International Diplomas)

Diploma en Ciencias Empresariales (Diploma in Business) 

El diploma en negocios capacita a los alumnos tanto en la parte teorica como en el desarrollo de aptitudes practicas, de una variedad de disciplinas comerciales tanto a empleados, empresarios o estudiantes de ciencias empresariales. Los diplomas estan disponibles en nivel estandard y avanzado, y son ideales para cualquiera que quiera ampliar su conocimiento general de negocios, o para aquellos que buscan desarrollar ciertas aptitudes especificas para un puesto de trabajo.

Los diplomas estan compuestos por módulos y, aunque cada módulo es una unidad en si mismo, estos permiten a los alumnos expandir el conocimiento adquirido en los módulos anteriores.

¿Cómo son evaluados estos módulos?

La mayoria de los módulos son evaluados en una fecha fija y en condiciones de examen, con la excepción de los módulos opcionales.

Cambridge International Diplomas in Business enable individuals to develop theoretical understanding, alongside practical ability, of a variety of business disciplines at all levels of the management structure. The Diplomas are available at Standard and Advanced Levels, and are ideal for anyone wanting to broaden their understanding of business as a whole, or those seeking to develop specific workplace skills.

The Diplomas are made up of a set of modules, each designed to ensure an individual's ability to understand and apply the principles and practice of a wide range of key business areas. Although each module is self-contained, a clear progression route can be followed through the two Diploma Levels, enabling candidates to build upon the knowledge gained at each stage.

Diploma en Tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación (TIC) – (Cambridge ICT Starters)

 Las tecnologías de la información y comunicación (TIC) es hoy en dia parte de la experiencia educacional del niño en la mayor parte del mundo. Enseñada ya sea como una materia extracurricular o integrada al curriculo, TIC es considerada hoy en dia como un elemento mas dentro de la alfabetizacion.

Cambridge ICT Starters esta diseñado para introducir a los alumnos, dentro del nivel de primaria y los primeros años de secundaria, a las aplicaciones claves de las TICs las cuales necesitan para adquirir y entender el impacto de la tecnología en nuestra vida diaria.

Los alumnos usan TIC para comunicarse y manejar información entre otros y tambien desarrollan habilidades en las areas de: procesador de texto, graficas, bases de datos, hojas de calculo, email, Internet, presentaciones, animación y video y manejo de web.

Este diploma se ofrece en 3 niveles:

- Pasos Iniciales ( Inicial Steps)
- Proximos Pasos ( Next Steps)
- En Camino( On Track)

Los contenidos de Cambridge ICT Starters han sido comparados y diagramados de manera que cumplan con los requisitos que se plantean a nivel internacional.

ICT

Information and Communications Technology (ICT) is now part of the educational experience of children in most parts of the world. Taught as either a discrete subject or embedded within the curriculum, ICT is regarded as a new ‘literacy’, alongside reading, writing and numeracy.

Cambridge ICT Starters is designed to introduce students, within Primary and Lower Secondary Education, to the key ICT applications they need to acquire that literacy and to understand the impact of technology on our daily lives.

The syllabus provides a curriculum framework in which ICT competence can be developed. Modules can be delivered according to the needs of each learning situation and age of the students – across the curriculum or as a separate course of study.

Students use ICT to communicate, handle information, model and control. They develop key ICT skills in a range of applications including: word processing, computer graphics, databases, spreadsheets, email, internet, presentations, video/animation and web authoring. Through Cambridge ICT Starters, students learn ICT practical skills; also they learn to consider wider issues such as adapting their work according to the audience and internet safety.

The qualification offers a structured scheme of assessment, operating at three levels:

• Initial Steps
• Next Steps
• On Track

At each level, a Cambridge ICT Starters Stage 1 or Full Certificate is available.

Cambridge ICT Starters has been mapped against prescribed ICT standards in a number of countries, so that the skills and knowledge assessed reflect the competencies demanded internationally.

Cambridge International Certificate of Education (ICE)

Cambridge ICE is the group award of the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) and requires the study of subjects drawn from the five different IGCSE subject groups. It gives schools the opportunity to benefit from offering a broad and balanced curriculum by recognising the achievements of students who pass examinations in at least seven subjects, including two languages, and one subject from each of the other subject groups.

Cambridge International A & AS Level

International A Level is recognised worldwide as a requirement for entry into higher education. Study and examination at A Level give students in-depth knowledge and lifelong skills that prepare them for success in higher education and employment.

International AS Level is typically taken at the mid-point of an A Level programme and is optional. Schools can offer AS Level as a qualification in its own right to increase breadth in the curriculum and allow students to complement other subjects they are studying.

International Recognition

International A Level and AS Level have widespread international recognition as educational qualifications. This recognition is because:

• International A and AS Level qualifications are recognised by universities as equivalent in value to UK A and AS Levels
• Good grades at A and AS Level can result in one full year of advanced standing or credit at universities in the USA and Canada
• Good A and AS Level grades are vital for admission to all the world’s major English-speaking universities and many non-English-speaking universities
• A and AS Level are rigorous programmes that encourage high academic standards

Cambridge AICE Diploma

First introduced by Cambridge in 1994, Cambridge Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) provides a high-quality English-medium qualification which prepares young people for honours degree programmes. It is a ‘group’ certificate which requires the study of subjects drawn from three curriculum areas. Cambridge AICE offers students the opportunity to tailor their studies to their individual interests, abilities and future plans within an international curriculum framework.
